The Masters in Marketing Search

My Search for the Masters program initiated during my MBA program. The passion to study abroad, is still alive as I write these words. Every day brings new challenges, new thoughts, new experiences and new lessons.

To tell the truth, I never expected to come abroad to study, I did not have that much funds at hand. But then things started happening, I got a grant from Lancaster University, I had good savings of my own, parents agreed to give some more funds. And here I was looking at last at more real opportunity of studying abroad.

I had seen my close friends and relatives walking down that international departures gate at Karachi International Airport, and for me it was always a dream to walk down that way to study abroad. I did not think it was going to happen, but happen it did as if it was destined to happen.

I was searching for a Master's program abroad which I could afford from my own savings without resorting to my parents expenditure. But my searches were not focused on lower tier universities but to make sure that I studied at some reputable institute which will give me an edge in life afterwards.

Whenever, I would search for a university, for Masters in Marketing, I would always come across Msc Advanced Marketing Management at Lancaster University. I was very much impressed by this course, but the fact that Lancaster University was not that well known in Pakistan always bothered me. But that word 'Advanced' in the Advanced Marketing Management did not cease to get my attention every time.

By January 2010, I had accumulated all the funds, and decided the universities to apply to. These included Lancaster University, Manchester University, Warwick Business School, EDHEC Business School (France), Cranfield University and University of Bath.

Master's In Marketing

When I started of my search for masters in marketing it was with the view of pursuing my Phd. I had no doubts that the study of marketing has anything to do with practice of marketing, there has been a great gap between practice and theory.

Essentially speaking to quote Dr. Lenney during my MSc Advanced Marketing Management at Lancaster University 'Teaching Marketing is like teaching swimming in a damp room'. I could not agree more.

I already have done an MBA, and this was my second masters. The experience of interacting with people from different nationalities was tremendous, academically speaking I do not think I made much progress except for the fact that I came to be comfortable with engaging with the literature.

There were a diverse range of experience I went through, each of them memorable in their own manner. I want to reflect each and every one these experiences some are painful with hard lessons, some are the most funniest moments in life, some romantic moments and some were just homesick moments.

During my Masters I realized that I had a great skill for writing, I could write very quickly and if I knew what I was about to write I could accomplish my essays very quickly as well.

I am writing this blog in order to be able to over my experiences from the search for an appropriate masters in marketing program to visa application, travelling to the UK and settling down in a totally different environment.
